Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept health insurance?
While I do not accept health
insurance assignment, I will provide you with the invoice you will need to file a claim for reimbursement if your policy includes acupuncture benefits. You can find out by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. Here are a few questions you can ask to determine your coverage and eligibility:
- What conditions are covered for acupuncture?
- How many treatments are covered?
- Will I need a referral from an M.D.?
- How much will be reimbursed per treatment?
What if I've been injured in a car accident?
In New York State, if you have suffered a personal injury in a motor vehicle accident, Article 51 of the Insurance Law (the No-Fault statute) requires the auto insurance carrier to pay for treatments. You will need to fill out some additional forms.
Does Medicare cover acupuncture?
Medicare does not currently provide coverage for acupuncture. Since 1993 U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) has been working to enact The Federal Acupuncture Coverage Act, HR 818, which would add coverage for acupuncture services to Medicare and the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program. Letters, calls and e-mails to your representatives in Congress urging them to co-sponsor the Federal Acupuncture Coverage Act are extremely effective. You can find their website at www.house.gov.
